My goodness we truly had all four seasons in one day for the winter wedding of Emily and Nick at The Painswick.
February is always a chilly month and sometimes a little grey. However as well as thunderous grey skies we also had sunshine, showers, and even snow flurries on this magical winter wedding day.
English Teacher Emily and Electrical Engineer Nick first met nearly a decade earlier at the Portivo Lounge Bar at Gloucester Quays with Nick proposing on their daughter Sophie’s first birthday. On a trip to the Cotswold Wildlife Park no less!
“Thank you, Nikki, for your patience, warmth, creativity and friendship on what was the perfect day for us. We are overjoyed and overwhelmed by the stunning photographs you took on that day of all four seasons. We have been told by many people since that snow on your wedding day brings good luck; ours was finding you to capture our special day in the most natural and beautiful way that you did. Thank you for everything.”

A: “Because Georgia was brilliant at responding to our initial enquiry and on a tour of the venue problem-solved how we could make it work when our party included two guests with mobility issues. And I can’t think of any reason not to choose The Painswick: the character of the building, the staff, the guest rooms!!! And those views! It’s perfection!”
A: “Nick’s sister for Nick organised at Slaters. I knew he’d pick blue and I’m pleased he did – he looked lovely.”
A: “My mum sewed a tiny blue ribbon onto the label in my dress and the something new was what I was wearing.”
A: “I picked it in August last year when we were on holiday and had just made the decision to set a date. I ordered it online and it fit when I tried it on. At the risk of sounding indifferent, it was fine 😊 I wouldn’t have wanted anything bigger or more glam as that’s not me. The dress was comfortable and I thought it was bridal without being too much of a statement which would have made me uncomfortable. It was a lot more bridal than I’d anticipated when I tried to picture myself getting married. I didn’t try any other dresses on.”
A: “Here, There and Everywhere – I was a massive Beatles fan in my teenage years, but we picked the Emmylou Harris version which I heard by chance on the radio when we started planning and I knew it was perfect. My best friend Kerry and I used to listen to the Beatles constantly – it was nice to have something of Kerry there as we had opted for family only at the ceremony.”
A: “We only actually decided to get married in August the summer before so we planned over six months.”
A: “We chose to invite immediate family only and it was just an opportunity for us to celebrate how loving and close we all are and enjoy some quality time in a beautiful space. We wanted it to be intimate, happy and fun – it was all of these things for us.”

A: “Your stunning website! The incredibly warm and heartfelt testimonials, which made me cry! Our first conversation when you so quickly grasped what we were after for our special day! You were the perfect fit in planning and on the day, thank you!”
A: “I carried Nick’s Nan’s handkerchief as my something borrowed. She was an amazing lady and a brilliant character – she’d have been the entertainment that evening had we been lucky enough to still have her. Meeting in our 30s meant that she was the only grandparent either of us got to meet. I was so pleased I could have something of hers to connect us to her on our special day.”
A: “I don’t think I can narrow it down. We both enjoyed every minute of it. It was so relaxed and genuinely happy!”
A: “The place names and favour bags. I made the girls’ flower crowns and hair slide – I really enjoyed doing that and think they really finished off the girls’ outfits.”
A: “We chose a sharing platter. It was all fabulous! I especially loved the salmon and Nick enjoyed the steak.”
A: “Not everyone would want the type of wedding we had. We decided we didn’t want to be extravagant but have no regrets. We had everything we wanted but in a moderate way which probably suits our personalities. We kept a track of every penny we spent at dates money was due etc which took away some of the stress as we had a grip of it all.”
A: “Just having our loved ones with us. There have been some serious health concerns on both sides, but they were put aside for the day and we were so thankful that everyone was able to attend.”
A: “Yep! But we were confident everything would be amazing! And if the flowers hadn’t turned up or the hairdresser hadn’t been able to make it, we’d have still had the perfect day because we were all together and so happy.”
