When I first met Leonie and Richard and we chatted about their plans over tea and cake at our Country Studio I just knew that this wedding was going to be spectacular. I wasn’t wrong – what a wedding it was! It was a proper Cotswold Christmas Wedding!
And in this lovely couple I’ve found Christmas kindred spirits! Leonie and Richard had carefully researched and planned the wedding day of their dreams following a magical winter wonderland theme with Christmas accents. They had thought of everything; and as a photographer who loves detail I was in heaven.
They had chosen Wyck Hill House because of its link to their families over generations. This country house in the heart of the Cotswolds wraps itself around you like a warm blanket on a cold winters day with roaring fires and elegant surroundings. Mixed with low lighting and candles the softness of the depths of winter was brought into the wedding day. Leonie, Richard, my assistant Kim, and I worked together as a team to create the romantic winter wedding images you’ll see in this blog. We were transported to a winter wonderland as this forward thinking couple had even hired in a snow machine to ensure that we were able to take their dream wedding photographs with snow!
They’ve also had their wedding featured in the current issue of Your Glos & Wilts Wedding Magazine. They’ve even grabbed the cover!
Here is their wedding story featuring one of my award winning images with their own words to tell you the story of their day… Enjoy!
We were childhood sweethearts who grew up on the same street.
Richard proposed to me while backpacking together around South east Asia for five months. One evening when staying in a deserted Cambodian island in the Thai Gulf Richard had secretly organised a candle lit dinner at the end of a jetty. He led me blindfolded down the sand from our beach hut down the shoreline to the jetty at sunset. The jetty was lined with candles, and there was a beautifully set table with a bottle of bubbly an Michale Buble playing in the background. Once I was seated, Richard got down on one knee, presented the ring and popped the question.
We both love Christmas so that was a natural theme choice with festive red as a colour palette. We chose the Venue as it was very sentimental to us with my family having had 40 years of special occasions celebrated there. Richard has been there to celebrate the last 12 years. We did a lot of DIY for our day to add that homemade personal element.
We loved all of it.
Don’t rush it.. take all the time you need with your planning.
Nikki’s Notes… Bring in seasonal floral accents and other associated greenery for the perfect Christmas wedding decor.
Nikki’s Notes… Leonie and Richard had thought of every last detail. From personalised socks for the boys to Christmas themed gift boxes…
Nikki’s Notes…Touches of the Couple’s creativity were everywhere and made for the most exquisite of settings…
Nikki’s Notes… I loved that Leonie and Richard trusted me in what I was doing and indulged my creativity. Just the other day I had an email from them saying: “There’s a reason you’re Most Innovative Wedding Photographer of the Year 2018 Nikki – you capture moments perfectly (we don’t mean to compare your work to others, but WOW)!!!! ”
Nikki’s Notes… Its moments like these when they stopped for a kiss under the mistletoe that melt your heart!
Nikki’s Notes… And then we really got to have some serious creative fun! Leonie and Richard had hired in a snow machine!!!
Nikki’s Notes… This one even won an award!
