The Easter weekend is often a time to hit the pause button and slow down, enjoy the first blooms of spring in the garden, take long walks in the countryside and of course indulge in a few sweet treats and yummy food straight from the veggie patch to the dinner table with family and friends!
I love to fill my house with spring flowers; hyacinths, tulips, Narcissus, Spray Roses, sprigs of pussy willow, and my favourites: pink ranunculus.
Making Easter decorations using the pruned lichen covered branches from our apple tree and twisted hazel from which I hang eggs and fresh flowers.
When laying the table for Easter Sunday lunch I like to use pretty patterned table cloths that echo the hues of spring and for the perfect place setting; heavy linen napkins in natural shades with a stripe, and mismatched glassware in pastel hues or with rose gold detailing.
Easter is also the time that ‘wedding season’ really starts to gain momentum so I teamed up with Lilyfee Floral Designs to create some creative and Easter themed ideas for a spring/Easter weekend wedding just for you.
An Easter wedding can be colourful; definitely time to buck the trend and step out in a pastel coloured wedding gown; we’re thinking pale blue, lemon, mint, and of course pink blush. Easter weddings were made for these colours!
And don’t forget your bridesmaids…!
Flowers are deconstructed and natural. Overflowing baskets and vases, set in wire to create a fabulous authentic feel. Bright pops of colour and seasonal British flowers set against crystals and cut glass add to the sparkle of spring.
Easter themed favours can be as cute as you want them to be! We love the idea of treats in a jar or in a mini terracotta plant pot, perhaps with a little gift on the top for your guests.
Save up jars to make these; (we love Bonne Maman with the pretty gingham lids or buy mini terracotta plant pots from your local garden centre.
Style your wedding breakfast tables with china cups and saucers, gilt or silver cutlery, spring flowers and ferns cascading and of course groaning sweet chocolate treats!
For your wedding breakfast don’t be afraid to strike out and start a trend. Think about injecting some colour; how about lavender meringue nests tops with lemon cream using edible lavender to create a subtle purple hue to the meringue, topped off with edible flowers.
Lean towards veggie patch inspired courses using seasonal ingredients; spring greens, water cress, asparagus, royal new potatoes. And of course rack of lamb served on sharing platters for each table to carve.
And talking of veggie patches don’t forget the Easter bunny – create an Easter egg hunt as a some entertaining fun for kids and big kids alike! And don’t forget tasty sweet canapés of Easter egg shaped cake pops and mini hot cross buns.
