Well this was a real treat of a wedding!
I met Laura and Karl the previous year when they were due to get married the following spring in the UK, however serious illness meant that their wedding day had to be postponed. And then came the call… “we’re getting married in Malta in October and would love for you to come out with us”, mmmmm let me think about that for a whole three seconds! YES! Karl is from Malta and so this lovely couple had decided to relocate their wedding. And so plans were made, plane tickets bought, drivers sourced, and a hotel booked and I was off! I left a cold and gloomy Gloucestershire on the Saturday morning to land later that day in the glorious sunshine of Malta.
Laura and Karl had opted to get married at The Xara Palace Relais & Chateaux in the ancient walled city of Mdina and boy was I in for a treat as a photographer! Laura and Karl met me at the airport and before delivering me safely to my hotel we went for a recce and coffee and cake in Mdina. As we walked around the city I learnt about the family history and why this place was so special to them both. Apart from from the obvious historical wow factor there were many family links to different location which added an incredibly personal twist to many of the photographs.
The following day the sun shone and I travelled once again to Mdina for their wedding. I was delighted too that two of the images from their wedding have since won industry awards!
Here is their wedding story… Enjoy!
