What a stunning colour choice!
Pantone has unveiled it Colour of the Year for 2020 and its ‘Classic Blue’.
For me it reminds me of the sky at its most wonderful point during dusk. That magical moment when the sky isn’t quite pitch black but a dark midnight blue. The day is almost gone. Yet the cloak of night has not yet enveloped us in its velvety cloak.
Interestingly as we start a new decade the colour choice for 2020 by Pantone almost takes us full circle to their first ever Colour of the Year back in 2000.
The colour for 2000 was ‘Cerulean’.
It was chosen for its calmness and to represent inner peace and fulfilment in a time of uncertainty. Do you remember we all thought every computer in the world was going to collapse!
The colour Cerulean was also considered to be a visual representation of reflecting on the past and looking toward the future.
They chose this calming blue shade that’s reminiscent of the sky.
What will the sight, smell, taste, sound and feel of Classic Blue be?
Interpreting colour through our senses is a challenging task.
Officially Classic Blue in scent form should evoke a “contemplation of where sky and sea meet;” the taste as “flowering vines;” the touch as a “soft velvety texture;” the sound as “vivid nostalgia.”. (Source: Pantone).
A second interpretation from Pantone is: “Classic Blue has an earthy, floral musk; a sugary flavor evocative of blue raspberry syrup; the feel of a brand new, plush couch; and an underwater, ethereal sound.”.
Well these both sound rather wonderful to me!
