Creating Your Brand
My passion for photography started when my awesome parents gave me a basic point and shoot camera when I was six years old. I took pictures of trees, flowers, the lakes behind the village I grew up in, and the horses at the stables where I spent a good chunk of my teenage weekends. I entered into photography competitions in pony magazines and I started winning. My love of photography was born. However, my first career was not to be photography. Would you believe it, I am actually qualified to run an archaeological dig! That’s right, I have a degree from Trinity College in combined archaeology and history. But this was not to be my career.
What happened next when I graduated, was a combination of being in the right place at the right time and a personal will not to fail. I landed a place on a graduate scheme at one of the leading marketing agencies during the depths of the mid-nineties recession and ended up becoming one of the youngest account directors in the UK. A career spanning over 15 years followed taking me from the Cotswolds to London and then onto New York. I worked for a FTSE 100 top 35 company and across global brands and ad campaigns for companies and organisations including American Express, British Airways, BP, The Salvation Army, Danone, Ford, CAFOD, Lloyds Banking Group, AXA Wealth and many more.
Brands and their development became a field I thrived in; the strategic business planning, the building and merging of businesses, creating and developing new brands, the design and implementation of a brand refresh. It was fast paced, exciting, challenging, exhausting and I drank a lot of coffee! Yet it gave me the opportunities to break rules, to test what worked and what didn’t, and more importantly why things worked and why they didn’t. My move back to the Cotswolds (and a very supportive family) gave me the breathing space to follow my passion for photography. I built my business alongside working full time as a brand consultant for two of the UK’s best known financial houses. Five years ago I made the giant leap into a career as a full time photographer and I’ve never looked back.

“Thank you so much for today; I’m so excited by everything I’ve learnt and I’m dying to start putting this into my real life business. You’ve really got my brain going! I had no idea that there was so much to learn; I had thought that a brand was simply a logo, how wrong I was. I now understand what a brand is and why it is so important to a business whatever the size. Your massive experience in the brand industry made for a really, really enjoyable and knowledgeable day of teaching and the sharing of information that would take years and years to learn. I loved the creative sections of the day too when we created a mood board just for my business and started the process of looking at ToV (I now know what Tone of Voice is!), colour palettes etc and the importance of colour them and what it all means. You pushed me and my brain and my goodness its exploding with thoughts as a result. The workbook has been so valuable and I am continuing to add to this as the days pass and will be ready to start filling the sections of my very own brand book in a couple of weeks time and ready to brief my design team. I’m looking forward to my mentoring sessions with you. You are an absolute star – thank you!”
